International Women's Day has worn various hats throughout my life's chapters. Back in my "young woman" era (aka, I just had my quinceañera party), finding out about this celebration made me so happy; to know there was a day where everyone agreed on celebrating women like my mother, it filled me with joy. All oblivious to the reason why the holiday existed in the first place.

Fast-forward to 2015, the world burst my bubble. I had the chance to move away and in that time of enlightenment I, naturally, became a feminist. Upon learning about the meaning behind Women's Day, all I could feel was anger. Having to realise all the things that women have had to fight for in the past and in the present, paving the way for future generations to achieve our common dreams, it left me with a bitter-sweet taste in my mouth. Yes, we've progressed and had our wins, but why did we even need to win in the first place?

Today I'm still a feminist, in case you're wondering; and I've now learned that women's day is March 8th and every day after. Now, I celebrate on the days a woman is recognized for her talent, on the days my friends get their dream job, on the days we fight for girls we'll never meet to have a choice over their bodies, and any other day we make strides towards equal opportunities for all.

While I'm sure we appreciate receiving flowers and the warm congratulations from friends and family on this day, my perspective has evolved throughout my life. International Women's Day is a time to celebrate the remarkable, intelligent, caring, and strong women whose stories we'll never know, but we will always relate to.

All in all, even if its not the 8th of March today, happy women's day! Here's a video I made for IBS' social platforms, and that I hope remind you of your power.
